The swineflu brought something good with it...
...As I wrote earlier my father had to go to the States for work and therefore miss the Helsinki City Run...BUT the trip was cancelled due to the swineflu! Yippie yay yey! So I didn't have to start alone. I had my dad with me. And he was with me the first 4-5 km or so...then this little daughter of his took off. The weather was pretty harsh; +9 degrees Celsius, raining and storm winds. That didn't stop this raging Finn, though. I ran like I had a heard of Pigs infected with the swineflu (sorry piggies, I know you have nothing to do with the deciese) chasing me. I was like the wind and Flash Gordon combined. What I'm trying to say is that I did pretty well. I am satisfied anyhow. So you want to know my time? The preliminary time was 2 hours 12 minutes. 21 km. My dad was a fighter and crossed the finish-line at 2 hours 22 minutes.

It's closing in...Soon it is time to...
...Run The Helsinki City Run 09.05.2009! Last year I ran my first half a marathon. It was quite an ordeal, since I the same morning of the run woke up with a pretty bad muscle spasm in my neck. I became so disappointed and angry because of it, I kicked a bed so hard I got a minor crack in the foot, too (ever heard of disguising pain with another?) I was in serious pain and could not move my head. Well you would think a physical therapist would have decided not to do the run, but persistant and stubborn as I am, I did. And man did I do it. I thought running 400 metres, which was the distance I competed in back in the day, was tough. But these 21 km would never end. Ha ha. Well I am very proud of completing the run and winning over a famous polititian on the last 100 metres. Don't tell anybody she's like 55 years old or something.

Anyway, now it is time again. Helsinki City Run, Round 2 (for me, that is). This time my father and brother were supposed to race me, but it seems they have gotten cold feet. My brother is in China and my father in America. I know, they went as far as they could.
This time I hope to be able to run without injury and my goal is to do a personal best.

My biggest fans: Dad, Mom, Myself and my hubby
Oh, by the way...I had to see a physical therapist for Months after the last run. She thinks I got a minor hernia in one of my cervical disks due to the strain. So don't try it at home, kids!

If you want something badly enough...

...you will find ways to get it/do it/make it happen, right? Well we did, Kat and I. We had a running date booked yesterday eve and Kat came straight to our appartment from work and we were all geared up to head out when she realized she had forgotten her shoes! Well Kat is 30 cm shorter than I am and has tiny feet. We were just so eager to go out running, we solved it! I borrowed my husband's shoes, size 44 (that's 5 sizes too big for me) and Kat put my 39:ers on her size 35 feet and off we went. Not the best run we had, but one of the funniest. And ugliest. And it felt soooo goood.

The best way to ice calories
Apparently "to ice somebody" means to whack them, i.e. to kill them. I'm so down with the lingo right 'bout now, so I'm gonna start using that. "Hey man, do you wanna get iced or something?"...I mean how cool is that to say. It's beyond cool. It's ICE COLD. Ha ha
The fastest way to burn calories is to go running before breakfast. It's a perfect way to start the day, I tell you!

The element of surprize!
Don't underestimate the element of surprize! I went running tonight in Stockholm. Oh yeah, I'm training for my second half a marathon. On my way to check one of those bucket list numbers off (running the complete marathon). Anyway, I left home eightish and my hubby thought I should bring my phone. Nah, it's too fancy for swetting on, I said. So off I went. And OMG, kiss my squirrel! I had forgotten how bloody pitch black it gets here...even in March.
My route involves parts of forrest and stuff. I had to use my ZUNE (For you Mac lovers who don't know what that is...It's Microsoft's version of Ipod) as a flashlight. As I was running, all the criminal novels I've read resently came into mind. Fantastic. Did I have to read those "woman gets murdered in the woods" and "woman gets raped on her jogging trip"- books? I start running faster. It turns out it's very efficient running in the dark. You're like night rider; fast as lightning.
So there I am...running with my bodyguard ZUNE, which is pink BTW. And I look back...Nobody there...Heart pounding...Looking forward. And *swollows* there is a huge black creature. It's a man...No it's a giant. And I'm not a small girl at my 5"10 (or what is 179 cm in feet?)...So he had to be at least 2 metres. The giant is all dressed in black and looks totally like a gangster. He has a dog...this is all happening very fast. Remember...I'm Flash Gordon at this point running on my tiptoes. When I'm a few metres (9 feet...when are you Americans gonna realize the metric system is genious?) away from him ready to fight for my life (and thinking that Visa was right...should have brought my bloody phone) he turns around and... GETS STARTLED OUT OF HIS MIND!
The Hulk says: OMG! You have to make some sound when you come running like that!
Mioli thinks: Is this a trick? He wants me to slow down so he can knock me over?
The Hulk: Here I was daydreaming, and all of a sudden you come running like the wind and almost giving me a heartattack!
Mioli: Oh...I'm sorry!
Lesson for today:
1. Bring your phone when you go out for a run. And paper, your snot will flow!
2. Don't go running in dark woods all alone when it's dark. People do get mugged, killed and raped, usually women, even in Stockholm. So all of you thinking I'm just an exaggerating, easily startled chic (which I of course am): Think again.
3. Don't judge people by their looks. Even The Hulk can get startled. And Giants daydream.
